Electric fence installation in Pretoria South and the older eastern suburbs
The older suburbs east and south of the city centre, such as Brooklyn, Menlo Park and their neighbours, have established homes and mature gardens. We connect you with an electric fence installer who covers them.
What electric fence jobs look like here
Suburbs such as Brooklyn and Menlo Park are among the older residential areas of the city, with established homes, mature trees and gardens that have had decades to grow. Boundary walls are often older too, and many have been raised or rebuilt along the way. An electric fence here usually means a wall-top system, and the condition of the wall matters: an installer will check that it can hold brackets, especially near cracks, corners and gate pillars.
Mature trees and hedges are the local headache. Branches and creepers along a boundary touch the strands, drain the voltage and set off alarms, and a storm can bring a branch down across the fence. Leave room between the fence and the garden when you plan, and agree who will keep it clear.
The jobs people ask for most
- Repairs to older fences, often caused by vegetation touching the strands.
- Restringing and new brackets on walls that have carried a fence for many years.
- Energizer and battery replacement after storms and power cuts.
- Certificates of Compliance for houses being sold.
- Upgrades: more strands, higher brackets or extra zones.
Older homes and the certificate
When an older house with an electric fence is sold, both the electrical Certificate of Compliance for the wiring and the electric fence certificate must be lodged with the conveyancing attorney before transfer. Only a registered Electric Fence System Installer may issue the electric fence certificate (source: ECA(SA)). If the inspection finds problems, the installer lists what must be fixed first. This is general information, not legal advice. See the Certificate of Compliance service and our guide to the certificate.
No suburb pages here yet
We do not yet have local pages for individual suburbs in this area, because we only publish a suburb page when we can say something specific and sourced about it. That does not mean we cannot help. Send your suburb and what you need through the contact form and we will check whether an installer covers it. Meanwhile, the service pages for installation, repairs and maintenance explain what to expect.
Frequently asked questions
Do you cover Brooklyn and Menlo Park?
Send your suburb through the contact form and we will check whether an installer covers it. If none does, we will tell you.
Why do trees cause so many fence faults?
Branches and creepers touching the strands drain the voltage and trigger alarms, and storms can bring branches down across the fence.
Can an old wall carry an electric fence?
Often, if it is sound. The installer checks for cracks and weak spots, especially near corners and gate pillars, before fixing brackets.
